Travis Duffey Scholarship History

Travis E. Duffey was so inspirational with everyone that he came into contact with: friends, family, and adults alike. He enjoyed learning all the elements of the game of football. It taught him, dedication, hard work, perseverance, practice, sportsmanship and teamwork; are the key factors in playing a team sport, much less a full contact sport. Even though he only played his first season of football with Lake Cities Football, he was able to learn and grasp all the aspects of the game: Teamwork, Offense, Defense, Special teams – and last but not least PRACTICE. In order to get better, you must practice, practice, and practice some more. Travis was instrumental in trying his best and not giving up, wanting better for his team and teammates. Heart is what an athlete needs – you either have it or you don’t. You have to want to do better, be better, and be the best in order to become the best.  Each person needs to have the “HEART” to commit themselves to doing whatever is needed to get better at what they do – no matter what the task – football, cheerleading, academics, homework, practice, music, or other sports. “Practice Makes Perfect” is what we are taught and that wisdom, is the key to our success.

Travis Duffey

As Travis passed away in January 2007, at the age of 12, we as friends, family and the community- wanted to help the youth of our community in the memory of Travis E. Duffey. The Travis Duffey Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by the Lake Cities Football and Cheerleading Association, was established to help the youth organization of our community. We wanted to make sure each kid that wanted to play / try out for cheerleading or football had the chance to play and participate. We also wanted to reward some of our participants that have come-up through the organization either cheerleading and /or playing football. We were able to award two exceptional candidates with a $1,500 scholarship to the college of their choice each of the past couple years. We hope to grow the scholarship this year, increase the number of scholarships, and hopefully increase the amount of each scholarship.

Travis is missed every day and is always in our thoughts.
